When sending SMS messages through Kaisa—whether you are using our rest API or the Engagement Builder—you have the option to customize the sender profile.
Instead of displaying a standard phone number to the recipient, you can set a custom Alphanumeric Alias (often called an Alphanumeric Sender ID). This is a great way to build brand recognition, so your customers or dealers see your company name (e.g., "KAISA") on their screens instead of a number they may not recognise.
Technical Rules for Creating an Alias
If you choose to use an alias for your SMS messages, it must adhere to strict international telecom standards. When setting your sender name, ensure it meets the following criteria:
-
Alphanumeric only: You can use letters (A-Z) and numbers (0-9).
- Maximum length: The alias can be up to 11 characters long.
-
No spaces: Spaces are not permitted. If your brand name consists of two words, you must combine them (e.g., use "MyBrand" instead of "My Brand").
Important: Country-Specific Restrictions and Registration
While Kaisa fully supports alphanumeric aliases, local telecom laws and regulations dictate whether the message will actually be delivered.
Many countries have strict anti-spam and anti-fraud regulations regarding who can use an alphanumeric sender ID.
- Pre-registration may be required: In several countries, you cannot simply type in a brand name and send a message. You must formally register your alias with a government or regulatory body before local telecom providers will allow your messages through.
-
Examples: If you are sending SMS messages to Spain, you must register your sender alias with the CNMC (National Commission on Markets and Competition). Similarly, sending to the UK involves guidelines set by Ofcom.
What you need to do:
Before setting up a custom alias for international campaigns, we highly recommend verifying the specific SMS Sender ID regulations for the destination country. If a country requires pre-registration and you have not completed it, local carriers will likely block your SMS messages from being delivered.
